Cover: Pianist Ethan Iverson’s recent big band commission, presented at the 2019 Umbria Jazz Festival in Italy, is documented on the new album Bud Powell In The 21st Century, a collaboration featuring the Umbria Jazz Orchestra.  The program includes renditions of some compositions that Powell recorded in 1949, including “Bouncing With Bud” and “Dance Of The Infidels.” DownBeat catches up with Iverson to discuss this project, as well as other work he has done since his departure from The Bad Plus at the end of 2017.
