This CD is a reissue of an Eric Dolphy recording session in Munich, Germany in 1961. Dolphy, who died of a heart attack at age 36 in 1964, was an innovator and collaborator with John Coltrane and Charlie Mingus He made the bass clarinet into a modern jazz instrument. This recording has been out of circulation for 10 years. Accompanying Dolphy is pianist McCoy Tyner, bassist Reggie Workman and drummer Mel Lewis. A digital re-mastering of the CD at Sorcerers Sound Studios in New York City has greatly enhanced the sound quality, which was not the best on the original album's first release. Includes the title track as well as "On Green Dolphin Street," "Oleo," and "The Way You Look Tonight."
