Overview
These four discs offer completely unreleased performances by the Weather Report lineup of Joe Zawinul, Wayne Shorter, Jaco Pastorius, Peter Erskine, and a bit later, percussionist Bobby Thomas, Jr. The sound here is remarkable given the root sources, mostly soundboard cassettes made by the group’s longtime live sound engineer. Erskine, who compiled this release, also provides a fantastic historical essay as well as annotated track notes. This release showcases the band at their jazz-funk best with improvisational and collective intuitive chops usually on stun. Hopefully there is more where this came from. – All Music Guide
